Crocco Announces a New Partnership with UniSMART (University of Padua Foundation) to Promote Innovation in Sustainable Packaging

Crocco, which recently became a Benefit Corporation, announces a new and significant collaboration with UniSMART, the University of Padua Foundation that promotes technology transfer and postgraduate training.

This partnership marks an important step for Crocco in strengthening its commitment to research and development, integrating new skills and academic resources of excellence.

On the other hand, researchers and innovation projects developed within the University of Padua can find an industrial partner in Crocco, one of the most prominent players in the European packaging sector.

UniSMART, established to facilitate technology transfer between the university and the industrial world, will offer Crocco access to a unique wealth of knowledge and resources.

"With this collaboration, we have the opportunity to explore new horizons for our industry," said Renato Zelcher, CEO of Crocco S.p.A. SB. "UniSMART will provide us with access to advanced expertise and innovative solutions, reinforcing our ability to stay 'one step ahead,' as highlighted in our logo, in our sustainability initiatives."

This collaboration goes far beyond the exchange of expertise, representing a true strategic commitment to the future. Thanks to UniSMART, Crocco will have the opportunity to access a vast network of researchers and professionals from more than 32 departments and 150 laboratories at the University of Padua.

Crocco reaffirms its focus on technological advancement to develop sustainable flexible packaging solutions, as highlighted by the pioneering "Greenside" project.

This program not only offers carbon-neutral and compostable packaging but also supports more efficient production and a reduction in environmental impact.

The company uses innovative materials, such as bio-based polyethylene and compostable films, and applies eco-design methods to minimize the environmental footprint of products throughout their lifecycle. Crocco's commitment to innovation has been recognized with awards such as the "Growth Champion 2024" and the CONAI Ecodesign recognition, showcasing its ability to lead the packaging sector toward a more sustainable future.

Renato Zelcher adds: "UniSMART will further enhance our development potential through the sharing of advanced skills and collaboration on projects involving the best talents and researchers. Together, we aim to achieve an even more significant reduction in the carbon footprint of packaging, an area where we are a point of reference not only in Europe but also overseas. This alliance is a concrete example of our commitment to investing in cutting-edge technological solutions for a more sustainable future."
